A voyage through time and tradition, The Oriental Odyssey Collection draws on ancient murals, ceramics and mosaics, a homage to Jim Thompson’s collector’s eye. Striking palettes, soft patina and ornate details, from the regal to the rustic, unfold into atmospheric vignettes with dramatic scale and rhythmic repeats, turning archival fragments into fabrics and wallcoverings for today.

Inspired by the grandeur of Thailand’s Rattanakosin era (c.1782 to present), and ranging from the gilded panels of the Grand Palace to folk‑art treasures, the collection reinterprets pieces of the past and historic motifs with a contemporary touch. 

Through her travels around Thailand and visits to local temples, Vichada “Dao” Sitakalin, Jim Thompson’s Creative Director, gets to know a city or town. Long before writing was common, the artistic representations found in these sacred spaces not only recount religious belief but also hold the deep memories
of local life - almost like living visual libraries. The stories told through murals, stucco and architectural fragments serve as the  collection’s inspiration, each element offering a unique glimpse into the past, a moment beautifully preserved in time.

Time‑etched detail and hand‑drawn motifs, infused with memories of daily life, ritual and a sense of place, echo throughout the collection. Striking and versatile, each design becomes a dialogue: an odyssey between past and present, soulful and timeless.
