ORIENTAL ODYSSEY II - VELVETS
Jim Thompson / FabricsThe voyage through time of Siam continues into what was dubbed the kingdom’s "Golden Era", a time the nation was rebuilding its identity after the fall of the previous capital city, Ayutthaya in the 18th century. It was a period suffused with cultural exchange, arts and crafts movement, and the gentle unfolding of new ideas brought by trading partners and foreign envoys from European and Chinese courts. As fresh shapes, colors, and motifs arrived, design awakened into a more poetic and inquisitive language. Temples, royal courts, and private quarters embraced these influences with quiet confidence, shaping an era of refined discovery and renaissance.
Temple roofs rise like flowing waves, and ceilings bloom with radiant florals. Vibrant colors, carved moldings, glazed tiles, and weathered walls murmur of time and tradition from royal quarters to quieter rural villages.
In Bangkok, at the royal temple of Wat Ratchaorasaram, Chinese-inspired ornamentation is elaborate and distinctive. Further north in the province of Nan, intimate murals capture everyday gestures and the tender beauty of the Lanna kingdom within the tranquil walls of Wat Phumin. From sanctuaries to ceramics, vessels, and collected objet d'art, impressions are reimagined and translated into fabrics that invite imagination through pattern, texture, and rich hues.
"With Oriental Odyssey II, we wanted to capture Siam as a place that is always in motion," explains Creative Director Vichada Sitakalin. "Every detail, from temple murals to everyday objects inspired the designs of this textile collection. It is a continuation of our Spring 2026 collection, where pattern, texture, and colors bring history and heritage into a contemporary, expressive present, and where designs remain true to Jim Thompson's brand DNA."
