Jack Lenor Larsen’s friendship and collaboration with Jim Thompson dates back to 1951. In the 1970’s, Larsen created a collection and then also a company named Thaibok Silks, which distributed fabrics for the Thai Silk Company. One of the innovations Larsen brought to the Thai Silk Company was the Southeast Asian tradition of weft ikat, or mud mee, as it is known in Thai, woven in long lengths suitable for home furnishings. We celebrate this rich history today by reproducing one of these beautiful Larsen Thaibok ikats, now named Lampang. Tied and dyed in the traditional method and then painstakingly handwoven in 2 ply Thai silk, this dramatic design is inspired by traditional Thai textile motifs, interpreted on a grand scale.
